We were lucky enough to have our first catalogue number space filled by the books, who are more well known on the internet than we are. if you want a more official source of news and information on the books, you should go see tomlab ( www.tomlab.de) or the books ( www.thebooksmusic.com).
The Books made one of the most underrated electronic albums of 2002. The US based duo released their debut ‘ Thought For Food' last year on small German independent Tomlab Records. Now, in preparation for the release of their second album, ‘The Lemon of Pink' (October 20 th), brand new UK label Make Mine return to two of the finest cuts from ‘Thought For Food', released on October 13th 2003 . 'All Bad Ends All' and 'Motherless Bastard' encompasses everything that makes The Books tick; post-laptop glitch, voyeuristic radio waves, sick humour and virtual indie rock. It's as if Todd Solondz (Happiness) had decided to make music instead of following the filmic line. In our twisted dreams, he may well have sounded half way as fucked-up as The Books. The Books are Nick Willscher Zammuto from Massachusetts and Paul De Jong originally from Rotterdam. Now the introductions are over with, feel free to discover why Rough Trade Shops placed them in the Top Ten of last year list. The A side is kind of like Django Reinhardt being frog-marched through the Weimar Republic by Squarepusher! Just listen and you'll know exactly what we are saying. Anyone that does not recognise the humour in ‘Motherless Bastard', does not deserve this (or any other) record. Wayward acoustic loveliness. Mummy? Daddy? Make Mine have plenty more tucked up their sleeve, so keep an eye out.
